Frozen Semen – KUSA registered donor dog

Guidelines for the registration of litters resulting from Artificial Insemination

KUSA registered dogs must adhere to the following Schedules in order to register litters produced by Artificial Insemination:

  • Schedule 2 Reg. 4.5In the case of a dog bred by means of artificial insemination properly authenticated documentary evidence of ownership of the donor semen, collection of the donor semen and insemination of the donor semen is required by the Kennel Union. In the case of dual sire mating, the entire litter will be required to be DNA parentage verified against both sires used.
  • Schedule 2 Reg.4.4In the case of those breeds listed in Appendix “C” to this Schedule the Sire and Dam shall comply with the specific requirements detailed below.

Here are the KUSA requirements to be met for registration purposes:

Semen Collection & Storage Certificate
  1. Letterhead & contact details of the Veterinary Institution / Service where insemination took place;
  2. Donor Dog details – Breed, Full registered name, KUSA Registration Number, Microchip number, Tattoo number/Colour, Date of Birth;
  3. Details of Owner(s) of the donor dog at time of collection  – Title, Initials, Surname, Address, Email, Telephone number;
  4. Semen Collection Details: Date(s) of collection, Number of straws collected, ID Label markings of straws, form of storage (pellets, ampules, vials, straws);
  5. Signed Declaration from Veterinarian – Confirming that the donor dog was positively identified via microchip & semen was collected and stored. (Electronic/Digital signatures accepted);
  6. Signature of Owner(s) – Witness and approval of collection & storage. Signature of all owners of donor dog required;
  7. A template of a Semen Collection Certificate can be download here or attained from the KUSA Office.
Certificate of Insemination
  1. Letterhead & contact details of the Veterinary Institution / Service where insemination took place
  2. Details of Bitch inseminated – Breed, Full registered name, KUSA Registration Number, Microchip number, Tattoo number/Colour, Date of Birth;
  3. Name of Owner(s) of Bitch – Title, Initials, Surname
  4. Signature of Owner(s) – Witness and approval of insemination. Signature of all owners of the dam is required.
  5. Donor Dog details – Breed, Full registered name, KUSA Registration Number, Microchip number, Tattoo number/Colour, Date of Birth, Semen Collection Date
  6. Signed Declaration from Veterinarian – confirming the Bitch was positively identified via microchip, number of straws used, confirming identification of donor semen straw labels & storage facility, date(s) insemination was performed & method of insemination used. (Digital/electronic signatures accepted).
  7. A template of a Certificate of Insemination can be downloaded here or attained from the KUSA Office.
Application for Registration of a Complete Litter
  1. The application form must be completed & signed by all owners of the dam & sire. Download the application form here.
  2. Indicate on the application form – mating by Artificial Insemination.
  3. Signature for the witness of mating not required. (Certificate of Insemination will bear required signatures).
  4. Owner(s) of the dam must be current members of KUSA & Kennel Name must be registered & current if kennel name is to be used as a prefix. Dam must be registered with KUSA & must be micro chipped.
  5. Owner(s) of the Sire must be current members of KUSA.
  6. Sire must be registered with KUSA or by a KUSA recognised registry & must be microchipped.
  7. Signature of the REGISTERED owner of the donor dog is not required if acceptable documentation is submitted confirming that the donor semen was purchased & is rightfully owned by the applicant(s), details of which correspond to and are recorded on the application form. (Confirmation of Ownership of Donor Semen).
  8. In the case where donor semen has not been sold & remains the property of the registered owner of the donor dog, the registered owner will be required to sign the application form as the owner of the sire.
  9. All puppies in the litter must be microchipped (microchip certificates must be attached to application form. Microchip certificate must record name of person that did implantation of the microchip & date of implantation).
Breed Specific Registration Requirements

(Refer to Schedule 2 Appendix C,& E)

RottweilersRefer to Schedule 2 Appendix C & E

  • The donor sire must have been screened for HD & ED. HD &ED screening must have been done after the donor sire reached the age of 12 months.
  • Only FCI / ADRK grading’s will be accepted & HD results will only be accepted from FCI recognised institutions & Veterinary Universities (Refer to KUSA Office or Rottweiler Breed Council for more specific details)
  • The donor sire must have been over the age of 18 months at the time the semen was collected.
  • The donor sire HD grade may not be lower than C2:C2 (refer to Schedule 2 App C for acceptable dam to sire HD combinations)

German Shepherd Dogs – Refer to Schedule 2 Appendix C

  • The donor sire must have been over the age of 18 months at the time the semen was collected
  • The donor sire must have been screened for HD & ED 
  • The donor sire HD grade may not be less than C2 (refer to Schedule 2 App C for acceptable dam to sire HD combinations)
  • The donor sire must have been DNA profiled.

Alaskan Malamute – Refer to Schedule 2 Appendix C

  • The donor sire must have been screened for HD
  • The donor sire HD grade may not be lower than C2:C2 (refer to Schedule 2 App C for acceptable dam to sire HD combinations)

Dobermann – Refer to Schedule 2 Appendix C

  • The donor sire must have been screened for HD
  • The donor sire HD grade may not be lower than B2:B2 (refer to Schedule 2 App C for acceptable dam to sire HD combinations)

Giant Schnauzers – Refer to Schedule 2 Appendix C

  • The donor sire must have been screened for HD
  • The donor sire HD grade may not be lower than C2:C2 (refer to Schedule 2 App C for acceptable dam to sire HD combinations)

Rhodesian Ridgebacks – Refer to Schedule 2 Appendix C

  • The donor sire must have been screened for HD
  • The donor sire HD grade may not be lower than B1:B1 (refer to Schedule 2 App C for acceptable dam to sire HD combinations)

Weimaraner – Refer to Schedule 2 Appendix C

  • The donor sire must have been screened for HD
  • The donor sire HD grade may not be lower than C2:C2 (refer to Schedule 2 App C for acceptable dam to sire HD combinations)

Biewer Terrier – Refer to Schedule 2 Appendix C

  • The donor sire must have been DNA profiled by an ISAG laboratory & parentage verified via DNA parentage verification
