The Cape Field Trial Club was affiliated to KUSA in May
1993 and runs two Retriever Trials a year, one of which is held under
the auspices of The Kennel Association. Normally our Trials are both
held in September, but in 2013 they will take place in July; the
location will remain as usual, farms in the beautiful Botrivier area,
just north of Hermanus.
In addition to its Retriever activities, the Club has an
active HPR section which holds its annual Trial near Greyton during
May. We have also just started a Weimaraner section and in 2012 we
hosted the first Weimaraner Shooting Rating to be held in the Western
In 2010 the CFTC hosted the National Retriever

returned to the same location in 2011 to win our CFTC Open stake. In
2012 they won the Kennel Association Open Stake at Botrivierplaas, but
the CFTC Open went to Elaine Walker and Bardale DB’s Triumph of
Walkabout WHR (Tess).
As well as KUSA-licenced Trials the CFTC offers training
sessions and informal Tests during the late summer and early winter,
held near Somerset West and Botrivier, and a number of “fun” events
during the year. In early March 2013, jointly with the Cape Gundog
Club, we will be hosting the FTLC Judges Symposium which includes one
day of classroom presentations and discussion and one day in the field.
In addition, we are hoping to include a ‘Vets’ Evening” at which a
number of professionals will be available for discussion of veterinary
